According to Rebecca Stone, managing principal with Denver-based OZ Architecture, mountain homes are incorporating modern detailing. “We’re seeing more glass, more steel accents, and less complicated, more simplistic forms. There’s still a lot of warmth, but people are looking for more refinement.”
Skiers are an active, affluent, and influential demographic. They want easy access from the airport to their resort homes (breakfast in New York, carving turns in Aspen by lunchtime) and easy access from their homes to the slopes. Ski-in, and ski-out residences are the shortest distance from the front door to fresh powder. No shuttles, no digging out the car, no driving in dicey conditions. Slope-side access maximizes time on the trails. “That’s big,” says Stone, a skier herself.
Ski-in and ski-out homes transform the sport. Their connection to the landscape is strong and the ability of homeowners to engage with nature is immediate.
